FISHING FRENZY RULES

I. TOURNAMENT
A. The purpose of the tournament is to encourage the participation and interest of all Club members and to encourage sportfishing in a sportsman-like manner, including the tagging and release of fish.
B. The tournament duration is the calendar year.
C. The tournament is open to all Club members and registered family members. Junior angler participation is encouraged.

II. AWARDS

A. ADULT INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
1. Male member with the highest number of billfish release points
2. Female member with the highest number of billfish release points
3. Largest Tuna
4. Largest Wahoo
5. Largest Dolphin
6. Most release citations for Striped Bass

B. JUNIOR ANGLER (SON OR DAUGHTER, AGE 16 AND UNDER) AWARDS
1. Individual junior member with the highest number of billfish release points
2. Meatfish Awards: Same as those for the individual adult awards.

C. PRIVATE BOAT
1. First place boat over 40 feet with highest number of billfish release points
2. First place boat under 39 feet with highest number of billfish release points

D. CHARTER BOAT AWARD
1. To encourage member charter boat participation, all member billfish entries in the annual Rudee North-South Tournament will count toward a member charter boat award. If a member charter boat does not participate in the North-South Tournament they will have to submit Fishing Frenzy Entry cards if they wish to participate in the charter boat category. The award will be presented at the annual VBBF awards banquet.

III. POINTS
1. Swordfish - 5 points for release
2. Blue Marlin - 3 points for release
3. Sailfish - 2 points for release
4. Spearfish - 2 points for release
5. White Marlin - 1 point for release

IV. RULES
1. IGFA rules apply to all fish caught, except as noted below.
2. To qualify as a release, the mate must touch the leader or the leader must be at the rod tip.
3. All fish must be caught trolling; no live bait, casting, pitching, etc.
4. To qualify for an award, you must be a member, either individual or family, at the time of catch or release. Family members must be listed, by name, on the membership application.
5. A son or daughter, 16 years of age and under, may be given some fishing assistance. Please use your discretion and keep the help reasonable. The goal is to promote individual effort.
6. A son or daughter over age 16 may qualify for adult awards provided they catch or release under the adult rules with no assistance.
7. Fish released by a non-member from a member's boat count toward the boat award total.
8. The trip must originate from and return to a Virginia or North Carolina port.
9. Fish weights must be from a state certified weigh scale. No tackle box "de-liar" scales.
10. Billfish boated DO NOT qualify for points.
11. Registration cards must be properly completed and received within 30 days of the catch or release. Only registration cards count no registration by phone or word of mouth.
12. Periodic Fishing Frenzy summaries will be posted on the club web site (WWW.VBBC.ORG) during the tournament year.
